COCAP BIWEEKLY: INCIDENTS SURROUNDING COVID-19 FEB 1 - FEB 15, 2021

From February 1-15, 2021 COCAP’s Nepal Peace Monitoring Project (PMP) recorded three incidents related to COVID-19. The incidents mainly involved protests by the health workers demanding risk allowance and demonstration by businessmen demanding exemption as promised by the government during the lockdown. Until February 15, 2021, the total number of positive cases reached 272,840 with 2755 deaths.

From February 1-15, 2021, 54 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) were recorded in which 27 victims of sexual assault were below the age of 26. Similarly, nine cases of domestic violence were recorded. This bi-weekly report is aimed to inform our readers of the added crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected everyone’s livelihood and made some groups of people even more vulnerable. It also aims to make the readers aware of the issues surrounding the violence against women and girls in Nepali societies.
