COCAP BIWEEKLY: INCIDENTS SURROUNDING COVID-19 MARCH 16 - MARCH 31, 2021

From March 16 - 31, 2021 COCAP’s Nepal Peace Monitoring Project (PMP) recorded nine incidents of protest related to COVID-19. The incidents involved employees being deprived of their salaries and All Nepal National Free Students Union padlocking school. Until March 31, 2021, the total number of positive cases reached 2,77,309 with 3030 deaths.

From March 16 - 31, 2021, 51 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) were recorded in which 19 victims of sexual assault were below the age of 26. Similarly, 10 cases of domestic violence were recorded. This bi-weekly report is aimed to inform our readers of the added crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected everyone’s livelihood and made some groups of people even more vulnerable. It also aims to make the readers aware about the issues surrounding the violence against women and girls in Nepali societies.
