Prisoners at Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur have been agitated over alleged abuse and extortion by captain inmates at the Jail. The prisoners protested and shouted slogans saying that they were facing rampant abuse at the hands of the captain inmates who they accused of extorting money from the new inmates and selling goods at high prices. According to an employee of the prison administration, the inmates have been shouting slogans and demonstrating since Wednesday morning.
More than 400 prisoners protested, demanding to change the captain inmates. During the protest there was also a minor scuffle betwee nthe two groups. Prison chief Subas Lamichhane said another group raised slogans against few captain inmates. He said that there may have been beatings inside the prison during the protest. But he says that there will be an investigation into this.
