24-year-old Sudip Rai of Phedi VDC-4, who was arrested on the charge of murdering his wife, has been sent to District Prison on remand following the order from the District Court. District Court judge Ishwari Prasad Gautam sent Rai, who is accused of killing and later burning his wife 22-year-old Sushma Rai on fire. Sudip was arrested on February 1. Sushma was found burned inside her home on January 16 which the police investigation revealed was a cover-up by Sudip. Sudip had set the house on fire killing her. Police said Sudip was trying to create an impression that she died in the house fire. Her body was found lying face down near the stove. Postmortem report showed that Sushma was 4-month pregnant. Sudip had returned home just a few days ago on leave from his work abroad. It is suspected that the row over Sushma’s pregnancy had led to the fatal scuffle.
