UDMF erects black flags at government offices

2016-04-30

Madhes, Rautahat, Gaur

Cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front erected black flags at government offices in the district headquarters Gaur today in a show of protest against the government. Dozens of UDMF leaders and cadres led by Federal Socialist Forum Nepal district chairperson and UDMF district coordinator Ram Niwas Yadav had taken out a rally chanting anti-government slogans. They then erected black flags in Gaur-based government offices and state-owned banks. Though the local authorities had beefed up security in view of the front’s protest, they were unable to prevent protesters from entering government offices. At the district police office, however, the front cadres had to withdraw after the police resorted to using force. At the district administration office, security personnel removed the black flag shortly after it was hoisted by the protesters. UDMF’s constituent Sadbhawana Party central member Yogendra Raya Yadav described their protest as successful. “The protest was against the discrimination against the Madhesi people on the issue of demarcation of provincial boundaries. Our protest was a huge success,” said Yadav. “As the discrimination against the Madhesh and Madheshis is not tolerable, we have come up with peaceful protest programmes,” he said.
