Manbir Sunar, 30, of Jubitha4 has succumbed to injuries that he sustained due to the beating by a group including, Mim Bahadur Shahi, Dip Shahi. He died while undergoing treatment on December 11.

The group had assaulted Sunar on December 10 saying that he had touched the stove of a Thakuri being an untouchable while lighting a cigarette at a hotel near home. A local Parba Shahi said that Sunar died while being taken to the district hospital for treatment.

Police arrested Mim Bahadur and Dip on same day after locals informed the Khallagad police post near the same VDC. Both are being detained at the district police office Kalikot.

Father of the deceased Birbhadra said that his son had sustained injury to his waist, stomach and lost consciousness. He added that Manbir was treated at a local medical shop for a day and died when he was being taken at the district hospital the next day.

DSP Homnath Niraula said that further investigation into the incident was ongoing.
