Right activists have expressed their concern stating that bill for formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission on Disappearances is going to be passed from the House with the provision of government granting amnesty to all accused of the decade long armed conflict.

They expressed the concern in a discussion program organized in National Human Rights Commission in the Capital on December 15.

"If the bill were passed unilaterally with the provision of giving amnesty to the accused, it would not be accepted," NHRC member Ram Nagina Singh said. He said that NHRC will make public its stance over the issue after holding a meeting.

"Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had told us that the government had sent recommendation to President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav to grant amnesty in the principle of 'granting amnesty and forget' while we had met the PM and raised the issue of murder convict CA member Bal Krishna Dhungel on December 8," Singh said in the program.

Saying that the bill is going to be passed from the House with the provision of granting amnesty to all cases except rape cases, human rights activist Charan Prasain said that the NHRC should make public its statement over the bill and ask the government to respond in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, human right activist Sudip Pathak, expressing similar views said that NHRC should publish a press release over the issue immediately.
