Former chairperson of School Management Committee of Saraswoti Higher School, Uku, Madan Ram Luhar lodged a complaint at District education office on June 8 against principal of the same school accusing him of caste discrimination. Luhar accused Principal Prem Singh Khati of discriminating him since the time he became chairperson just because of being Dalit. Luhar accused Khati of doing caste discrimination by not involving him in school’s activities and also not letting him to sign in a certificate of the School’s yearly programme. He said “I was bypassed just because of being Dalit.” Dalits accused that the process of forming a management committee was postponed from time to time after there was a situation of Dalit becoming a chairman in new school management committee. The election of school management committee which was supposed to be on May 19 was postponed for May 26. The election was cancelled by committee coordinator Hira Chand, principal Prem Singh Khati and VDC secretary Prem Singh Khatri showing various technical reasons said candidate Ramesh Luhar. He said that the election was cancelled just because there was high probability of winning by Dalit candidate. District Education Officer Dr Babu Ram Dhungana said that the case will be investigated before taking any action. He further said that this is related to sentiment and it looks like caste discrimination because of sentimental hurt.
