6 women rescued from Kanchanpur

As many as six women were rescued while they were heading towards India from Gaddhachauki in Kanchanpur of far-western Nepal on Saturday. The rescue operation was carried out jointly by the Maiti Nepal and police in the district. Three women from Dhading, two from Myagdi and one from Kathmandu were allegedly being transported to Kuwait and Iraq via New Delhi, informed the Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur Coordinator Maheshwori Bhatta. “They were heading towards India on a jeep with Indian registration number plate, so we rescued them from possible danger,” she said. The rescued women are in the age group of 20-30 years, Bhatta added. Police said that they have detained Mai Bahadur Tamang (50) from a suspected human trafficking racket, who was escorting the women to the Indian capital. A rescued woman shared that they were charged Rs 75,000 to 80,000 by brokers in Kathmandu. The rescued women are currently at the Maiti Nepal.
