Nepalese security personnel injured in clash with Indian citizens

Nepal Police and Armed Police were injured by the attack of Indian citizens while stopping them from illegally excavating sand from Auriya River of Pandeypur, Pidariguthi VDC-6, Parsa on Saturday. Armed Police Officer, Ratnesh Shah working in Armed Police Border Out Post has sustained a serious injury on his left hand, as reported by Armed Police Force Superintendent Bhim Bahadur Thapa. On Saturday afternoon, 50-60 Indian nationals were loading sand in 5-6 tractor from Auriya river entering 50 meters inside Nepal from Dasgaja of Nepal-India Border. 17 APF personnel and Nepal Police team led by APF Sub-Inspector Hari Prasad Lamsal from Bhikampur Armed Police Border Out Post, Assistant Inspector Gopal Khadka from Pandeypur Police Office, and Assistant Inspector Rajkumar Ghalan from Pidariguthi Police Office reached Auriya river after being informed by local Nepalese. APF Superintendent Thapa informed that Indian citizens attacked security forces with sticks and shovels as they were requested not to excavate sand from Nepal land by the security forces. The Indian citizens ran away after the Nepalese security forces resorted to baton charge. Meanwhile, the Nepalese security force has taken control of an Eicher tractor and a motorcycle bearing plate number. BR 22 N 2028 from the site of the incident. Both vehicles have been kept in Armed Police Border Out Post of Bhikhampur as informed by Armed Police Superintendent Thapa. A similar incident had taken place many years ago in the same river. Indian citizens are also reported to have attacked journalists who went to collect news. Indra Chaudhary of Pidiriguthi stated that Indians have been illegally excavating sand from the Auriya river in 200 to 300 tractors daily and selling it at Bangaha, Inkha, Siktta, Betaya, and Naraktiyangunj of India. He further stated that the Indian Police and Indian Border Security Force (SSB) have been supporting the Indian sand smugglers. One of the locals stated that Indians have overstepped the Nepal land and the location of Border Pillar has been shifted by Indian citizens.
