2013-03-20

NEPALGUNJ, MAR 20 - A gang- rape victim , who was staying in a shelter run by a Nepalgunj-based NGO, is missing since last week. After she was raped by three men in Nepalgunj bus park on March 7, the 25-year-old woman was brought to the shelter run by by Saathi, an NGO working for women and children empowerment. “She stayed for four days. On the fifth day, she left the shelter saying she needed to take care of some work. She did not return,” said the shelter warden, Lata Shrestha. She added that the woman’s family had requested the organisation not to send her home and keep her in the shelter. Superintendent of Police Bhupal Kumar Bhandari, however, claimed the woman is still in contact with her family members. Nepalgunj police have arrested two suspects—Ruplal DC and Tilak Acharya—in connection with the incident. The third suspect is still at large. This is the second time a settler has gone missing from the Saathi shelter. On 20 July 2011, 14-year-old Aarati Shahi, who was rescued from India, went missing before she could be handed over to her family. Her whereabouts is still unknown. ekantipur.com
