Various student unions affiliated to different political parties on Wednesday demonstrated in the Capital against the Parliament’s decision to hike pay and perks of lawmakers.
As many as 13 student unions including Nepal Students Union (NSU), All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) and All Nepal National Independent Student’s Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) among others staged demonstration at Peace Garden at Ratna Park today.
The participants at the protest rally chanted slogans demanding Constitution implementation, withdrawal of salary hike and forge unity among parties.
In a corner meeting organised after the protest rally, NSU President Nainsingh Mahar said that the rise of pay and perks of the lawmakers was against people’s interest.
He warned that the student unions will continue the protest until the Parliament rolls back its decision to hike the pay and perks of the lawmakers.
Similarly, ANNFSU Chairperson Nabina Lama said that the rise of salary and allowance of lawmakers at a time when the people were in dire need of food and shelter was quite illogical. So, the decision must be revoked, she underscored.
