A two-day strike called by the cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have crippled the lives of people in the Tarai region today. Agitated UDMF cadres have been burning tyres in marketplaces at Bhardaha, Kanchanpur, Rupani and Kalyanpur of Saptari district disrupting the everyday lives of people there. Transportation, factories, industries and educational institutes in the district have also been closed, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported. The UDMF have demanded that those killed in the clash yesterday be declared martyrs. They have demanded compensation for the bereaved families as well. The UDMF had called an indefinite strike in Saptari claiming that four persons were killed in the police firing during a clash that erupted between the UDMF cadres and police personnel outside the venue of CPN-UML’s mass assembly at Maleth VDC outside Rajbiraj yesterday. More than 25 UDMF cadres and three police personnel were also injured in the clash. Similarly, the UDMF cadres have also been staging protests by burning tyres at various parts of the Birgunj in Parsa district. Ghantaghar Chok, Aadarshanagar, Chapkaiya, Murli, Ramgadhwa, Powerhouse Chok, Naya Buspark areas of the city have been tense since this morning due to the protest. Scores of police personnel have been deployed in various parts of the region. सप्तरीमा हिजो भएको हिंसांत्मक घटनाको बिरोधमा संयुक्त लोकतान्त्रिक मधेसी मोर्चाले आह्वान गरेको बन्दले मध्य तराईका केही जिल्लाको जनजीवन प्रभावित भएको छ । घटनाको विरोधमा मोर्चाले तराईमा आज र भोली मधेश बन्द आह्वान गरेपनि पूर्व र पश्चिमका केही जिल्लामा भने प्रभाव न्युन देखिएको छ । दुई नम्बर प्रदेश अन्तरगतका ८ जिल्लामा भने बन्दको प्रभाव देखिएको छ । लामो तथा छोटो दुरीका सवारीसाधन चल्न सकेका छैनन् भने उद्योग कलकारखाना, शैक्षिक संस्था र वजारपसल पनि बन्द छन् । मोर्चा आवद्ध दलका कार्यकर्ताले बिहानैबाट प्रमुख शहरमा प्रदर्शन सुरु गरेको हाम्रा सहकर्मीहरुले जनाएका छन् । एमालेको मेची महाकाली राष्ट्रिय अभियानका क्रममा प्रहरीसंग हिजो भएको झडपमा तीन जनाको मृत्यु तथा २० जना घाईते भएलगत्तै बसेको मोर्चाको आकस्किम बैठकले आज र भोली तराई बन्द गर्ने निर्णय गरेको थियो । बन्दका क्रममा हुन सक्ने तोडफोड तथा झडपलाई ध्यानमा राखी स्थानीय प्रशासनले बिभिन्न जिल्लामा सुरक्षाकर्मीको उपस्थिति बढाएको छ । पुर्ब पश्चिम राजमार्गमा फट्टफुट्ट सबारी साधन सञ्चालन भएपनि सहायक तथा भित्रि सडक भने सुनसान देखिएका छन् । घटनाको बिरोधमा संयुक्त लोकतान्त्रिक मधेसी मोर्चा सप्तरीले भने अनिश्चीतकालीन जिल्ला बन्द आह्वान गरेको छ । मोर्चाका कार्यकर्ताले सदरमुकाम राजबिराज सहित भारदह, रुपनी, कञ्चनपुर लगायत स्थानमा बिहानैबाट प्रर्दशन सुरु गरेका छन् ।
