An explosion rocked the residence of Khadga Phago, Nepali Congress mayoral candidate for Morang Urlabari Municipality in Jhapa, in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The blast occurred at Phago’s residence at around 2:30 am Sunday, Inspector at Area Police Office, Chandra Bahadur Thapa said. However, the blast has not caused any major damage. After initial analysis of the explosion scene, police believed an explosive device could have been set off by using a timer in an apparent bid to foil the second phase local level polls slated for June28. Police have been investigating who detonated the blast and reason behind it, Thapa said. He added that the security personnel would not police would intensify security even if the motive behind it was to foil the election. NC mayor candidate Phagu said he could see anything when he rushed to figure out the situation after the explosion. He said that he wouldn’t be distracted by the incident. He called on the people and candidates to take part in the upcoming elections without fear though the motive behind the explosion was to terrorise the people. He urged the authorities to identify those involved in the blast and initiate legal action against the guilty. Coordinator of NC Election Campaign Keshav Karki said the despicable act was a handiwork of those suffering from defeatist mentality. मोरङको उर्लाबारी नगरपालिकाका मेयर पदका उम्मेदवार खड्ग फागोको घरमा बम विस्फोट भएको छ । शनिबार राति २ : ३० बजेतिर नेपाली कांग्रेसका उम्मेदवार फागोको घरमा बम विस्फोट भएको इलाका प्रहरी कार्यालयका प्रहरी निरीक्षक चन्द्रबहादुर थापाले जानकारी दिए । विस्फोटबाट ठूलो क्षति भने हुन नपाएको उनले बताए । घटनाको प्रकृति हेर्दा टाइम बम हुन सक्ने प्रहरीले आशंका गरेको छ । बम कसले र किन राखेको हो भन्नेबारे अनुसन्धान गर्ने कार्य भइरहेको प्रहरी निरीक्षक थापाले बताए । थापाले चुनाव बहिष्कार गर्दै आएको समूहले विस्फोट गराएको हुन सक्ने आशंका जनाए । उनले चुनावी वातावरण बिथोल्ने उद्देश्यले विस्फोट गराएको भए पनि सुरक्षामा कुनै कमि नआउने दाबी गरे । बम विस्फोटलगत्तै उठेर हेर्दा घटनास्थल वरिपरि कोही नदेखिएको उम्मेदवार फागोले बताए । उनले आतंकित पार्न जोकोहीले बम विस्फोट गराए पनि आफू विचलित नभएको बताए । उनले विस्फोट गराएर सर्वसाधारण जनता र उम्मेदवारलाई प्रभावित पार्न खोजे पनि ढुक्क भएर चुनावी गतिविधिमा लाग्न उर्लाबारीका मतदातालाई आग्रह गरे । उनले आफ्नो घरमा बम विस्फोट गराउनेको तत्काल पहिचान गरी कानुनअनुसार कार्बाही अघि बढाउन आग्रह गरे । उनले यस्ता गतिविधिले सर्वसाधारणमा नकारात्मक असर पर्ने भएकोले सुरक्षा व्यवस्था भरपर्दो बनाउन प्रहरी प्रशासनसमक्ष माग पनि राखे । निर्वाचन प्रचारप्रसार समिति संयोजक केशव कार्कीले पराजित मानसिकताबाट ग्रसित पार्टीले यस्तो घृणित कार्य गराएको टिप्पणी गरे । उनले भने,‘हाम्रा उम्मेवारको घरमा जुन पार्टीले बम विस्फोट गराउन लगाएको हो, जनताले उसको मूल्यांकन गर्नेछ । विस्फोट गराएर हाम्रो चुनावी गतिविधिलाई प्रभावित पार्न खोजेको होला । तर, यसले केही फरक पादैन ।’कांग्रेस आइतबार दिउँसो उर्लाबारीको बरगाछी चौकमा चुनावी आमसभा गरेको छ । सभालाई सम्बोधन गर्न केन्द्रीय सदस्यहरु शेखर कोइराला, महेश आचार्य र जिल्ला सभापति डिकबहादुर लिम्बू उर्लाबारी आउँदैछन् ।
