Nepalgunj-based regional office of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has made public a fact-finding report prepared in connection with the killing of Manbir Sunar, 31of Jubitha4 of Kalikot district amid a function in Nepalgunj on December 30.
Making public the report, INSEC regional coordinator Bhola Mahat said the incident occurred due to caste discrimination and under the influence of alcohol.
The report said maximum punishment should be given to the accused as per legal provision and all announcements made by government including providing Rs. 10, 00000 to the family of the victim should be implemented. The report has further said local administration, political parties, social organizations, right activists, mediapersons, legal practitioners and civil society should launch a collective campaign to bring an end to social discrimination. It has also demanded that all the government mechanisms should be active for the implementation of legal provisions to end all kinds of discrimination.
Manbir Sunar, a resident at Maidhara of Jubitha4 in Kalikot, who was injured from beating of his friends Min Bahadur Shahi, 30 and Deep Bahadur Shahi, 41 over a dispute in the shop of Jas Bahadur Shahi at 8 pm on December 10, was taken to district headquarters Manma for treatment, however, he died without receiving treatment at Janapriya Hotel the next day, the report said.
The fact-finding team led by INSEC with the involvement of Chhanya Sunar of Kalikot coordinator of Women Human Rights Defenders Network had carried out field studies of incident for a week starting from December 16.
