Dev Narayan Tharu, 52, of Saljhandi8 in Rupandehi has died inside Kapilbastu prison on December 29.

Tharu who was being held in the prison since last four months on charge of human trafficking had lost consciousness after the Kapilbastu district court issued verdict on his case. He died inside the prison without regaining consciousness.

The prison administration has said that he died while they were preparing for his immediate treatment. However, the inmates accused that Tharu died due to lack of timely treatment.

The inmates complained that they fell ill as the administration could not manage the large number of inmates. At present, there are three times more inmates than the jail's capacity.

Tharu was a diabetes patient. His family had met him a day before his death at the prison.

His post-mortem was held at the district hospital Taulihawa on December 30. His relatives performed his last rites at Banganaga river the same day.
