KATHMANDU, June 21:Federation of Nepalese Journalist (FNJ) and Press Council Nepal (PCN) on Friday expressed serious concern over the arrest of Journalist Sushil Panta, the editor of Gorkha FM and nepaliheadlines.com. Panta was arrested on Thursday in connection with the news content on the online news portal. The police have also detained Santosh Bhattarai and Puskar Kandel, both staff at the news portal. Issuing press statements, FNJ and PCN maintained that it was unlawful to arrest the journalists over the published content as there are other related bodies to watch the issues. Both organizations demanded the immediate release of the arrested journalists. The organizations also visited the Chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office and Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Friday and expressed their concerns. Meanwhile, District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu has sent Panta to judicial custody for seven days. Panta was arrested following a complaint filed by Bhola Regmi, the principal of Kanya Campus in Dilllibazaar, over the news content published in nepaliheadlines.com alluding to the sexual behavior of the students. According to Borna Bahadur Karki, chairman of PCN, despite other legal ways, including filing complaint at the PCN, the journalists were arrested. He also said that the PCN is the only body entrusted with the authority to monitor the online and electronic media so the police action in arresting the journalists is not justified. Likewise, Prakash Giri, president of the Parliamentary Affairs Journalists Society, also condemned the act and called it the police overstepping the role of other government agencies. “We will resolve the case remaining within the legal framework soon as possible,” said the Chief of Crime Division, Bijayalal Kayastha. काठमाडौँ । ०७० असार ७ गते समाचार लेखैकै भरमा नेपाली हेडलाइन्स डटकमका अनलाइनका पत्रकार सुशील पन्तमाथि महानगरीय प्रहरी परिसर हनुमानढोकाले असार ६ गते विद्युतीय ऐनअन्तर्गत मुद्दा दायर गरेको छ । पन्तले ०७० असार ६ गते हेडलाइन्स अनलाइनमा डिल्लीबजार स्थित रहेको कन्या स्कुलको ट्वाइलेटमा भान्टा भेटिएको भन्ने शीर्षकमा समाचार प्रकाशन गरेका थिए । पत्रकार पन्तको विषयमा अपराध अनुसन्धान महाशाखाले अनुसन्धान गरिरहेको महानगरीय प्रहरी परिसरका डिएसपी तथा प्रवक्ता चक्रबहादुर सिंहले जानकारी दिए । ऐक्स्ट्राखवर डटकमले सो समाचार केही दिन अघि प्रकाशित गरेको थियो । खबर प्रकाशित हुनासाथ कन्या क्याम्पसका प्रमुखले समाचारलाई लिएर प्रहरीमा उजुरी दिएका थिए । उजुरी पश्चात ऐक्स्ट्राखवर डटकमका पत्रकार पुरूषोतम कँडेललाई प्रहरीले बुटवलबाट गिरफ्तार गरी विद्युतीय ऐनअन्तर्गत मुद्दा चलाएको थियो । कँडेलले बयानका क्रममा प्रकाशित समाचार नेपाली हेडलाइन डटकमबाट साभार गरेको भनी बताएपछि पत्रकार सुशीललाई पनि प्रहरीले असार छ गते गिरफ्तार गरी मुद्दा दायर गरेको अपराध अनुसन्धान महाशाखाका प्रवक्ता सुरेन्द्र मैनालीले जानकारी दिए । यसैबीच पत्रकार पन्तको गिरफ्तारी प्रति गम्भीर ध्यानाकर्षण भएको प्रेस काउन्सिल नेपालले जनाएको छ । काउन्सिलले असार ७ गते जारी एक प्रेस विज्ञप्तिमा सो ध्यानाकर्षण भएको जनाएको हो । विज्ञप्तिमा प्रकाशित समाचारप्रति चित्त नबुझे प्रेस काउन्सिल नेपालमा उजुरी दिनुका साथै अदालत समेत जान सकिने बाटाहरू रहेकोमा विभेदकारी रूपमा पत्रकार पन्तलाई गिरफ्तार गरिनु न्यायिक नभएको भन्दै उनको रिहाइको माग गरिएको छ । विवेक ढुङ्गाना
