Tanahun/January 4 Assistan Chief District Officer (CDO) of Tanahun Rajendra Prasad Ghimire, who was drunk during his office hours, has beaten up two journalists on January 4. The editor of Setimadi Daily and Chairperson of Press Union Tanahun, Dambar Bahadur Adhikari and the editor of Madiseti Prabaha and vice-chairperson of Press Union Tanahun, Omkar Acharya were verbally abused and manhandled by Ghimire while they had gone to the District Health Office to collect information on the campaign against elephantiasis. Shah who was drunk at the residence of chief of district health office, Dr. Sushilnath Pyakurel punched me from behind as we were returning, Adhikari said. District based journalists met with CDO Rudra Prasad Poudel immediately after the incident and demanded serious action against Ghimire. They staged a sit-in the whole day in protest of the incident. Poudel assured that he would initiate steps for action after investigating the incident. Meanwhile, the journalists have taken out a protest rally in Damauli bazaar and announced their protest programs.
