A case of rape, filed at the District Police Office (DPO), has been concluded in compromised on July 4 after pressure exerted by the villagers.
The victim had filed the case at the DPO but the pressure from villagers forced her to nod for compromise, DPO’s Women and Children Service Center (WCSC) head Satya Devi Adhikari informed.
Claiming that Hem Bahadur BK, 27, of Kuntadevi VDC-9 had raped her after giving her false promises,
the woman had filed the complaint on June 29.
The villagers told the accused to pay Rs 160,000 to the woman which he did. Then the villagers asked the woman to agree for the compromise, the women rights activists informed.
A local Hem Kumari Gurung said that the compromise was made in the auspices of WCSC after the woman and the accused came saying they would settle the case in the village.
When asked, DPO’s Inspector Bhagirath Regmi refused the charge that they had mediated to settle the case adding that the woman had withdrawn her case saying she was ready to settle the case.
