Conflict Victim Gets Relief After INSEC DR's Initiation

Kavre/ November 10 Ek Kumari Chaulagain of Nangregangarche VDC-2, whose husband was killed during the conflict, has received financial relief of Rs 300,000 following intiation by INSEC District Representative. Her husband Khilnath Chaulagain was killed by the then Maoist cadre Suryaman Tamang on October 20, 2001 in the pretext of Chaulagain's bull destroying Tamang's buckwheat crop. Tamang had hacked Chaulagain with Khukuri following a minor dispute. The Chaulagain family carried out his funeral in hushed manner because of the intimidation posed by the Maoists. Tamang died in an encounter with Army in Saramthali VDC-9 on September 26, 2006. Tamang's family received Rs 100,000 but the Chaulagain family was not able to get anything despite several claims. A process to apply for the relief began when she approached INSEC DR's office. Ek Kumari had received Rs 100,000 following INSEC initiation on April 25, 2011. Process to get her another Rs 200,000 began after the government announced that the victims's family would be getting Rs 300,000 each. Over 250 have received interim relief in the district of Kavre. INSEC has been providing support to over 100 to claim the announced additional money.
