Book on Armed Conflict in Ramechhap Released

Lalitpur/January 4 Dwandwakalin Ramechhap, a book with all incidents of human rights violations committed during the armed conflict in Ramechhap district, has been released on January 4. Releasing the book, Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission Kedar Nath Upadhyaya said that the book reminded of serious incidents of armed conflict. The book highlighted that there should be no conflicts like the Maoist armed conflict, he said. Expressing concern on the government preparations to grant amnesty to perpetrators of grave human rights violations, Upadhyaya said that impunity would flourish by granting amnesty. Chairperson of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Subodh Raj Pyakurel said that no one would win through violence. He added that the publication of the book was an example of leaders of political parties of Ramechhap being unanimous in bringing true details of conflict-related incidents. UCPN-M Ramechhap in-charge Dhawa Lama, NC district president Ram Chandra Khadka, UML chairperson Kailash Dhungel and coordinator of the book publication committee and the then CDO of Ramechhap Jitendra Bahadur Bhandari also shared their views in the program. The book has been published with support from INSEC, Advocacy Forum, OHCHR, NHRC and Pro-Public. According to the book, 226 persons were killed and 25 disappeared in the Ramechhap district during the conflict while 638 persons were victimized in incidents of beatings, torture and inhuman treatment. 400 persons were displaced by the conflict.
