10 children have been raped in first seven months of 2013. The victims are from 4-year-old boy to 16-year-old girl.
They were victimized in nine incidents where 12 have been accused. Most of the perpetrators are relatives of the victims and neighbors.
Spokesperson of the District Police Office DSP Shyam Singh Chaudhary said that incidents of sexual violence were on the rise. Among the incidents of violence against women that reach the DPO, most are rape incidents and girls are the victims in most of these incidents.
The police office has registered eight rape cases of children in seven months at the police office.
In one incident, an agreement was reached at Mahuli Police Post after the accused, a minor, provided 10,000 rupees to the victim.
The District Court has remanded three accused in custody in seven cases while an order has been issued to withhold property of another accused who is absconding. The court has ordered other four to appear before court.
Rights activists Parbati Raut said that some incidents could not be made public due to the fear of social stigma.
Shrestedar at District Court Bed Prasad Upreti said that the perpetrators have been brought to justice in incidents where the victims have reported the incident. The court has been sentenced in incidents after being convicted following investigations, he said.
Devaki Neupane, Officer at the Women and Children Office said that some incidents were not made public as trends of forcefully settling such cases still existed.
