The family of a girl, hailing from Sipuwa VDC-8 has assaulted a dalit family in which she had inter-caste marriage.
The victim family which had to leave its village after the marriage was assaulted on July 21 before the couple could be rehabilitated. Police have not yet made any arrest.
The parents and other relatives of Bindeshwari Bhar, 18, want her back though she had got married to Bipatta Harijan, 21 and have refused to recognize the marriage.
Harijan’s elder brother Sugreev, grandfather Muniram and grandmother Koili were thrashed by the Bhars, arriving with arms. Sugreev has sustained eye injuries in the incident.
They accused Bindeshwari’s brother Sanjay Bhar, mother Munna Bhar and neighbors Sibarna Bhar and Birendra Bhar of beating them up after the couple began to come home occasionally to meet the family members.
District Police Office chief Bikram Singh Thapa, who was just transferred to the district, said that the police would investigate the case. He said that the police would tried to broker peace between the families by bringing them together for discussion.
