-The relatives and family members of the victims of enforced disappearances in Parsa said officials of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) had not paid attention to their complaints even after its tenure had been extended by a year in February. They requested the CIEDP to start investigation into the reported cases soon. During an interaction held in Birgunj on Tuesday, the kin and relatives of the victims shared their ordeals with the CIEDP Chairman Lokendra Mallick. They said the delay by the CIEDP in investigating the reported cases had further victimised them. Victim Hira Bhattarai of Madhubanmathawal in Parsa said she was feeling insecure after disclosing the name of the perpetrator in her complaint paper. “We have not returned to our home because of fear. We are living in the district headquarters facing hardships,” said Bhattarai, adding that the government should guarantee their safety. Another victim Bal Krishna Shrestha said that they were still waiting for a CIEDP’s decision. “The victims who are seeking justice have been displaced from their homes,” said Shrestha. Human rights activist Kamal Mohan Pokharel called on the CIEDP to show urgency in making a decision on the reported cases and compensate the victims. CIEDP Chairman Mallick assured that the names of the perpetrators and witnesses would be kept confidential. “The Special Court will make a decision once the cases are presented to the Office of Attorney General,” he said. The Local Peace Committee has received 3,167 cases in Parsa. According to the committee, only 400 of those cases have been investigated so far.
