Bomb damages wall of Indian consulate office in Biratnagar

(updated) A bomb went off at Indian consulate office in Biratnagar damaging the wall on the premises on Monday night. Morang SP Arun Kumar BC said the blast in the open space behind the building caused minor damage to the wall. Police said they are investigating to find out on who caused the blast in the office. Investigating officers suspected cadres of Netra Bikram Chand’s Communist Party of Nepal to have caused the blast. The party had called a general strike in biratnagar on Monday. The security in the blast site and around office premises has been upped after the blast. Meanwhile, a suspected item found on the bridge over Gachiya River in the district obstructed transportation along the East West Highway until 8 am Tuesday. The arrested have been identified as Uday Rai, 42, and Bhim Limbu, 24 of Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist party. Rai is Morang district secretary of the CNP. Rai and Limbu are accused of exploding an improvised explosive device at the embassy’s contact office. DSP, Bishnu Hari Koirala, said that they were also found involved in smashing windowpanes of a house. They were arrested from Biratnagar metropolis. The accused have been remanded to custody and investigation has been launched, said Morang police Chief Arun Kumar BC. “A manhunt to nab others involved in the blast is on,” police said.
