An unidentified group vandalized the house of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality’s mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha last night quoting RSS. Mayor Shrestha who came under attack by some unidentified people on April 21 is undergoing treatment at the Korea-Nepal Friendship Hospital. He was thrashed with iron rods by assaulters who reached at his house at around 6:00 pm the same day. According to one Chandra Bhakta Shrestha who operates a cooperative at the mayor’s house, the CCTV footages show two people burgling into the house through its main door and breaking doors of two overhead floors. In his reaction on vandalism carried out at the house, mayor Shrestha from the hospital bed said he was not sure whether perpetrators of both the incidents would be brought to book. “I have been in the hospital bed since the past 16 days, but people who assaulted me have not been arrested yet and my house was also vanadalised.” Metropolitan police circle, Thimi chief and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prajjwal Maharjan said that preliminary investigations into the latest incident showed that it had no connection to the earlier incident. The motive of theft is seen in the incident of vandalism. Meanwhile, a 151-member struggle committee has been constituted in protest against the assault on the mayor. A gathering of locals held today formed the committee to pile pressure on authorities concerned to arrest the guilty, demanding the physical security of the mayor, according to committee member Nabin Prakash Shrestha.
