FNJ Expresses Concern over Threat to Journo

Chitwan/September 8 The Chitwan chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed concern over the threat issued by some persons to journalist Hari Prasad Pokharel. Issuing a joint press statement on September 7, FNJ among other organizations expressed their concern over the threat issued by some persons to Pokharel on September 7. It has been learnt that Pokharel was threatened over a news on Chitwan being turned into a hub of gangsters published in the Dristi Weekly of September 4. Pokharel expressed ignorance about the news item. The statement issued by FNJ Chitwan Chairperson Janak Aryal, Press Chautari Chitwan Chairperson Shaligram Nepal, Nepal Press Union Chairperson Basant Parajuli, among others condemned the threat. "It is an issue of condemn that journalist Pokharel has been repeatedly threatened over such a news that he has not written and when there is legal provision to go against a news if there are reservations against it," the statement said. The local administration has been urged to take strong action against those issuing the threat.
