Police on Friday detained 30 protesters from different parts of Kathmandu for trying to disrupt the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Senior Superintendent of Police Purna Chandra Joshi, spokesperson for Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Office, said police rounded the protesters for chanting slogans against visiting Indian prime minister from places like Sinamangal, New Baneshwor, Gaushala and Ratnapark. Police also removed a banner put up by Bibeeksheel Sajha Party at its central office in Lalitpur, denouncing the 2015 border blockade imposed by the Modi government. The government had heightened the security in Kathmandu Valley during Modi’s visit. The Kathmandu Metropolitan Traffic Police Division had deployed 850 traffic officers at various road junctions and thoroughfares to facilitate the motorcade of the Indian prime minister. (PR)
