Sexually Exploited Woman Rescued

Banke/September 17 A 19-year-old woman of Chhinchu in Surkhet, rescued from a brothel in GB Road in Delhi, India, has been handed over to her mother by Maiti Nepal in Nepalgunj on September 17. She was rescued in the initiation of Maiti India and support of Indian Police on September 14. Two Nepalis, Jeevan Rana of Danda Kharka VDC-9 and Ram Sharan Darlami of Gogane VDC-8, Makawanpur had met her, one and half months after she was sold to a brothel. When she expressed her desire to return, the men contacted her mother. Maiti Nepal contacted Maiti India after the mother filed an appeal requesting for her rescue, Maiti Nepal regional coordinator Keshav Koirala informed. The victim had got intercaste marriage at the age of 15 and was working in Laddakh, India with her husband. According to her, she contacted one Maya Tamang, hailing from Sindhupalchok after getting tired of daily battering at the hands of her husband. She told Maya sent her to the brothel saying she would be working in a textile shop.
