Saptari/September 17 Khadari Mandal aka Tulawa Devi, 65, of Mursahaniya in Malekpur VDC-7 has been assaulted by her neighbors Harikant Mandal, 40 and others on charge of being a witch. Her relatives have filed an FIR at District Police on September 17. The son of the victims, Umesh Mandal, 30, informed that Umakant Mandal, 38, Hari Narayan Mandal, 50, Ram Chandra Mandal, 45, Ram Sundar Mandal, 48, and Binod Mandal, 22, were involved in the incident. Ranjana, the 16-year-old daughter of Hari Kant had died by consuming poison. His younger daughter Sanjana, 15, began having fits prompting him to accuse the victim of casting spell on her. Umesh added that when he tried to defend his mother, the attackers swore at him and then beat him up. The victim has sustained face and ear injuries and is being treated at Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital where she remains unconscious. Police have arrested Ram Sundar and his son, Binod following the filing of an FIR at Patthargada Police Base Camp on the day of the assault.
