EC Gives Permission to 51 Organizations for Election Monitoring

Lalitpur/September 21 Two International and 49 national organizations including INSEC have been permission by the Election Commission to monitor the upcoming CA elections. The EC said that the organizations would be mobilizing over 72,000 people for the monitoring work. It informed that the organizations had expressed commitment that they would follow the EC standard for fair and impartial monitoring. Maheshwar Neupane, the joint-secretary of the EC informed that decision was yet to be taken on the applications of two organizations which had not submitted complete set of documents. It is also learnt that the EC is going to invite EU, Japanese and Australian Governments and SAARC countries’ election commissioners for election monitoring. Neupane informed that a visit of polling centres had been planned for the international agencies in Nepal for monitoring. Carter Centre of the US and Asain Network for Free Election are going to mobilize 85 and 54 monitors respectively. There were 138 organziations got permission and 37 organizations and 61,854 monitors monitored last CA election. It is said that the number of organizations are less this time because the EC had issued a directive rejecting the application of those which monitored the last CA election but failed to submit report. Only 36 national and six international election monitors had filed CA election monitoring report. To qualify as an election monitor, one has to over 21 years of age, who has passed at least the 12th grade, should be not be a member of any party and should not have any criminal punishment. However, the person, who was involved in previous election too, can have passed only 10th grade. R
