Police today arrested 40 leaders and cadres of Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal from different places of Kathmandu. Police said the arrests were made after they received information that the party’s cadres and leaders were planning some suspicious activities. According to police, the arrested were also involved in violent activities in the past. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Bishworaj Pokharel, of the 40 arrestees, 33 were released after they signed a commitment letter stating that they would not be involved in such activities in the future. The remaining seven persons are still in police custody and a case has been filed against them. “We now have the authority to detain the accused for up to 25 days until we complete our investigation,” said SSP Pokharel. The party’s leader Padam Rai, who was a former minister of state for Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development, the party’s Kathmandu Secretary Dhirendra Upadyaya aka Samjhana Bhatta, the party’s politburo member Bharat Bam, central member Ranasingh Pun Magar, Om Prakash Pandey, Ek Raj Rai, and Siddhanta Rai have been detained by the police. काठमाडौं प्रहरी परिसरले विप्लव समूहका ४० जना नेता तथा कार्यकर्तालाई पक्राउ गरेको छ । उनीहरुलाई नेपालटारमा संदिग्ध गतिविधि गरिरहेको अवस्थामा पक्राउ गरिएको प्रहरीले जनाएको हो । काठमाडौं प्रहरी प्रमुख वरिष्ठ उपरीक्षक (एसएसपी) विश्वराज पोखरलका अनुसार पक्राउ परेका मध्ये ७ जनाविरुद्ध सार्वजनिक अपराध मुद्दा चलाइएको छ । पोखरेलका अनुसार विलप्व समूहका सदस्य एवं पूर्वमन्त्री पदम राई, समूहका पोलिटब्यूरो सदस्य भरत बम, केन्द्रीय सदस्य रणसिंह पुन मगर, कानुनी सल्लाहकार ओमप्रकाश पाण्डे, काठमाडौं सेक्रेटरी धिरेन्द्र उपाध्याय, एकाराज राई र सिद्धान्त राईविरुद्ध मुद्दा चलाइएको हो । उपाध्यायमाथि यसअघि ललितपुरस्थित अयोधिप्रसाद यादवको घरमा बम पड्काएको समेत आरोप छ । ‘जनतामा भय र त्रास सिर्जना गर्ने गतिविधिमा आइन्दा संलग्न नहुने वाचापछि अन्यलाई छाडिएको हो’, एसएसपी पोखरेलले भने ।
