DEO Mistreats Journalist

Kalikot/October 2 Vice-president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) district chapter Deula Singh Thakuri has accused the District Education Officer (DEO) Bishnu Prasad Tiwari of mistreating him. Thakuri, 40, of Odanku VDC-4 and also a reporter of education newspaper Epage said that DEO Tiwari mistreated him when he reached at a program organized by DEO's office on September 30 in course of collecting news of the program. According to Thakuri, Tiwari told him to get out of the room asking him who had invited him. Meanwhile, FNJ Kalikot issued a press release condemning the incident. FNJ Kalikot urged concerned ministry and local administration to initiate immediate action against those mistreating journalists. DEO Tiwari refused to comment on the incident. The FNJ Panchthar district chapter has also issued a press release on October 1 condemning the attack on its vice-president and reporter of Phidim Post weekly Bilas Yogya. According to the victim, he was attacked by locals including Surendra Angdembe, Milan Nemwang, Sameer Begha on September 30 night. He underwent treatment at a local medical shop.The District Police Office said that the accused was released as the incident was a matter of personal dispute.
