Traffickers on Interpol watch list arrested

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested two persons, who were on the Interpol watch list, from Kanchanpur. The suspects of transnational human trafficking racket are Prerana Laxmi Malla, 27, and Biraj Yadav, 29, of Tulsipur, Dang. Superintendent of Police Sanuram Bhattari, CIB spokesperson, said the duo were brought to the capital and produced before Kathmandu District Court, which remanded them to eight-day judicial custody. Earlier, Interpol France had issued a diffusion notice for the alleged human traffickers on the request of National Central Bureau, Kathmandu. NCB, a division of the concerned national police agency, serves as a contact point for the Interpol in 192 member countries, enabling them to work together on cross-border crime investigation and exchange information related to criminals and suspects. According to SP Bhattarai, they were involved in human trafficking by making Africa their base. They used to smuggle unemployed youths into Guinea from Nepal via India and Ethiopia, only to leave them in the lurch with the promise of lucrative jobs in Canada and France. As many as 14 victims had filed FIR against Malla and Yadav.
