MANGALBARE: An unidentified group has attempted to set CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal's ancestral house on fire at Sankhejung-4 last night. Khanal is contesting the November 19 Constituent Assembly election from constituency-1 here.
A group comprising four to five people tried to torch Khanal's house with corrugated zinc roof after spraying petrol at around 11 p.m. on Sunday. "We saw the ground floor on fire when we woke up after heard neighbours shouting," said Harikala Rimal, who stays in the house.
The fire was brought under control by three families staying at the house. Police have been stationed at the house since last night following the arson. The fire has damaged the ground floor of the three-storey house. Ilam Police said they are searching for the culprits.
