Mehetar community of Saptari started protest accusing the police of wrongfully arresting members of their community in a death incident. On Wednesday, Mehetar Community and several human rights organizations staged a protest in Rajbiraj over the arrest of people of Mehetar community in murder accusation of 45-year-old Ashadevi Dev.
They accused the police had arrested 4 members of their community without investigating and trying to find the actual culprit of murder case. Police had previously arrested 5 members of Mehetar community in accusation of involvement in a murder case of 45-year-old Ashadevi Dev of Rajbiraj Municipality-4, Saptari. Saptari police had arrested 30-year-old Chanardevi Mehetar, 35-year-old Munni Shah, 32-year-old Shankar Raut Mehetar and 26-year-old Suraj Raut Mehetar after murder of Ashadevi Dev. Kanti Mehetar, mother of Suraj Raut Mehetar accused that police had tortured her son Suraj and others to give a false statement.
