NC stages demonstration displaying inflatable wide-body plane

2019-02-04

The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) on Monday staged demonstration in the capital, displaying a plastic toy plane.

The NC chanted various slogans including “PM Oli, where is the wide-body planes procurement scam lost?” to protest against the government. The party organized a nationwide demonstration on Monday against the government for not investigating the wide-body procurement scam, 33 kg gold smuggling case and failing to book the perpetrator of Nirmala Panta rape and murder case.

Earlier, the NC was accused of abandoning the issue of corruption in purchase of wide-body planes as its president Sher Bahadur Deuba was also dragged in the scan. The NC Central Working Committee on January 27 had demanded proper investigation into the procurement of wide-body planes.

Speaking at the press conference organized on that day, NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma had clarified that NC would not remain quiet even if the party president’s name was linked with the scam.

The Public Accounts Committee of the parliament on December 31, 2018 concluded that there was corruption of Rs 4.3556 billion during the procurement process.
