Members of Tharu community including Tharu Kalyankarini  Sabha staged a demonstration in Maitighar Mandala of Kathmandu on Friday following the supreme court decision to sentence in life in prison, 11 persons accused of being involved in the 2072 incident in Tikapur of Kailalai which resulted in the death of 7 persons including SSP Laxman Neupane of APF.

Citing the incident as a result of political struggle, the demonstrators demanded the government to treat the accused as political prisoners. Accusing the state of discriminating on the basis of ethnicity, the protesters carried symbolic scales. The protesters also displayed placards in which "Stop the oppression of Tharus", "Release all Tharu political prisoners".
