Nepali Congress village president attacked

DAMAULI: An unidentified masked group of four youth today attacked Nepali Congress village committee president Tun Bahadur Nepali with a scimitar at Kahun Shivapur VDC in Tanahun. Nepali was critically injured in the attack. The same group also attacked the village committee secretary Bhoj Raj Ranabhat of the same party and Bharat Kafle of Bhirkot VDC-1. Nepali, a pillion rider, along with Ranabhat was heading to Bhirkot from Bhimad when the incident occurred. The youths attacked Nepali after they stopped the bike that Nepali and Ranabhat were riding and hit them indiscriminately with the scimitar, said sub-inspector Amrit Bahadur Lamichhane of Bhirkot police post. Nepali received deep cuts on the hands, head and feet. “A group of unidentified youths came out suddenly from the jungle and hit me while I was driving,” said Kafle. He further added that they kicked him and later left him. An unconscious Nepali, along with Kafle and Ranabhat were taken in a vehicle belonging to the Nepali Army to Bhimad-based Ekta Hospital for treatment. Nepali cannot speak. SP Gopi Man Shrestha of DPO said that a search for the attackers was under way. He said police had also found two bottles of petrol at the site. Meanwhile, NC Tanahun president, Dhruba Wagle, said action should be taken against the attackers. “Criminal activities in the name of unidentified groups should end completely,” he added. One of the poll-opposing parties CPN-M’s cadres might have involved in the incident.
