The Human Rights activists have drawn a serious attention on the incident of threatening its staff member by police on April 22 by entering into the office of NHRC, Nepalgunj. The police had attempted to enter the office premises to arrest a person who was under the protection of NHRC.
Police had attempted to enter the NHRC office premises on April 21 to arrest 35 years old Dan Bahadur Phadera of Kohalpur Municipality-11 who was charged of possessing explosives. He was released by the District Court on normal date.
Immediately after his release, he surrendered himself to the office of the commission in fear that he will be re-arrested. A team of police in command of DSP Ramesh Bahadur Singh of Area Police Office of Kohalpur attempted to entere into the office however he was restricted by the security guard Hari Bahadur Singh of NHRC. He was threatened by the police and serious attention is drawn according to commission’s chief Chandra Kanta Chapagain.
The letter of attention has stated that police has violated the law by attempting to enter into the office of the commission.
The incident was condemned by vice -chair Sunil Shrestha of Nepal Bar Association, commission’s chief Chandra Kanta Chapagain including human rights activists.
