Rift at RR school over post of acting principal

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

A dispute about the post of acting principal at New Baneshwor-based RR Secondary School has led to the manhandling of the acting principal .

A team led by teacher at the school Kripasur Khadka and accompanied by Mayor of Panchkhal Municipality Mahesh Kharel threatened Jivan Prakash Regmi Monday to force him to leave the post of acting principal, according to Regmi.

Khadka, who claimed that he was the senior-most teacher at the school, said he did not manhandle Regmi. “I just went to his office today to hand over the decision of the ward office to appoint me as acting principal,” he said. “Political cadres also accompanied our team from the ward office and that worsened the situation,” he added. The school principal is generally appointed by the school management committee, which is headed by Keshav Mani Oli and includes the representation of guardians. The management committee decided on March 7 to appoint Regmi as acting principal as he was the oldest member of the school staff and he had handled the responsibility of acting principal when the principal was absent. The tenure of Gita Kharel, the school principal, ended on April 18. Regmi was appointed acting principal pending another decision .The school management committee made a mistake in appointing Regmi, whose rank is that of a third class officer, as acting principal instead of someone first class like Khadka, said Mayor Kharel, whose house is at New Baneshwor . “The school management committee appointed Regmi to cover up irregularities ,” he alleged. However, Regmi stuck to his claim to be the oldest teacher at the school although his rank is only that of a third class officer . Khadka is retiring after 7-8 months, he added. “I just followed the decision taken by the school management committee.”The school, which was well known for good examination results in the past, is a government entity.
