Ward chairperson of ward 5 in Jaleshwor municipality, Rakesh Raut has been accused of assault and robbery in his own ward on Sunday. According to District Police Office Mahottari, Raut was accused of seriously injuring a person by beating him and robbing rupees two lakhs from another person.

Residents of Jaleshwor municipality-5 Chauriya village Basuki Chaudhary and Sashikant Chaudhary had ran into a fight. According to Basuki Chaudhary's mother a group of 8-10 men led by Raut who came to the scene after Sashikant called him, brutally assaulted Basuki Chaudhary, informed DSP Khagendra Khadka of Mahottari Police. Basuki who sustained serious injury in the attack was sent to Janakpur zonal hospital after undergoing basic treatment at Jaleshwor hospital.

According to locals Basuki sustained serious injury in different parts of his body after, ward chairperson Raut and his friends hit him with iron fiber. The ward chairperson and his friends ran away after locals intervened in the scene. They took some members of the ward chairperson's friend into control but they were let off by police. 

Ward chairperson Raut and his friends later physically assaulted Sitanandan Raya of Jaleshwor municipality-5 and his friend Ram Ekwal Kapar and robbed rupees two lakhs from them. Raya's father informed the police about the incident.
