Kathmandu/November 23 The Election Commission (EC) has stated that it is convinced that the Constituent Assembly election held on November 19 was held in a free, fair, impartial and credible manner. Speaking at a press conference, Chief election commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti said that the election was managed by employing the election laws formulated with the participation of the political parties and with the highest mobilization of the internationally- established methods, process and standards. It has also urged all the stakeholders concerned to remain assured of this subject. The press conference was called on November 23 amid a claim by the UCPN-M that some ballot boxes were found in a police station in Kathmandu. He said the ballot boxes which were sealed with the representatives of the political parties contesting the election and the candidates as witnesses were safely brought to the vote counting venues in the district headquarters from the polling centers in their participation. Stating that the serious attention of the commission was drawn towards the misleading publicity by some media on that very topic, the Chief Election Commissioner said, "The Election Commission requests all the voters and those concerned not to believe in such misleading publicity." Replying to the query on ballot boxes in the police station, Upreti said that it was the old practice of keeping some ballot boxes by the security agency as they could not be kept in local shops and needed to be stored in government state. “During the election and vote counting process, the parties’ agents are present and they confirm their signature”, Upreti added.
