Chairperson of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Subodh Raj Pyakurel has said that the government has made the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) powerless. Speaking at the program organized by Human Rights Network in Dhankuta on January 31, Pyakurel said that instead of protecting human rights by making the NHRC powerful, the government was making it ineffective.
He said that the Baburam Bhattarai led government had curtailed the people's right to information by classifying 140 kinds of information. He stressed on the immediate scrapping of the government decision.
Human rights activist Charan Prasain accused that the government was trying to make the country an 'arena of corruption' by curtailing the right to information. <
