A school principal in Baglung allegedly thrashed one of his students, and the student fainted, state news agency RSS reported.
According to the report, Baglung Municipality-based Ganesh Secondary School principal Ganesh Gautam beat tenth-grader Kushal Poudel berating him for his ‘poor educational performance’, Kushal’s father Prem Prasad told RSS.
“My son’s friend told me that Kushal fainted after being beaten repeatedly. We brought him home from school after one of his teachers informed us. His upper teeth have been broken. He is receiving care at home,” said Prem Prasad.
“I enrolled my son at the school in the hope that the school would provide quality education. Corporal punishment should not be allowed under any pretext,” he said, adding that he would seek legal remedy.
One of the school’s teachers confirmed that Kushal was beaten. However, the school management committee and principal could not be reached for comments despite several efforts, said RSS.
