Mahottari District Police Office has revealed that the murder of 36-year-old Shrawan Thapa aka Saroj was planned by his wife Puja Thapa. Shrawan was found dead near Smriti Park in Mahottari-Bardibas stretch of BP Highway on July 15. It was revealed through Puja's sister that Puja had directed the murder of her husband through hitman. Post-mortem report shows that Shrawan was killed through the attack in the back of the head with stone and rods. 

Police arrested four people in charge of murder. The arrested were Pramod Singh of Dhankaul Rural Municipality-3 of Sarlahi, Mukesh Shah of ward number 2 of the same municipality, Srinarayan Mehra of Gadhimai Municipality-6 of Rautahat and TI Shahi of the same location,  according to Mahottari police. Pooja gave 450 thousand rupees to the contract killers. The victims' families have filed a case of murder against a dozen people. The other accused are absconding.
