Child Marriages still prevalent in Jumla: 27 percent of teenage mothers.

According to Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital records in 2018, the hospital had 674 pregnancy cases among which 179 were teenage mothers. In 2019 among the 678 pregnancy cases 130 pregnancies were below the age of 20 and 517 were 20-34 age groups and above 35 age groups were only 27 pregnancies.2 Maternal mortality recorded in Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla.On Oct 12, 2018, a 30-year-old pregnant lady died due to excessive bleeding after taking abortion medication without doctor’s advice. On March 14, 2019, 17-year-old Sangita Rawat died during treatment. The Doctor stated that due to her early age pregnancy, pneumonia, heart problems, and lack of blood circulation due to nerve blockage she died while being 27 weeks pregnant.
