NHRC Urges CPN-M to End Politics of Violence

Kathmandu/November 16 National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the CPN-M to move on the way to consensus by ending culture of violence. Saying only through free, fair and fear-free election politics is enhances and values and norms of political culture is respected, NHRC expressed concern over the ongoing violent activities. Issuing a press statement on November 16, the constitutional rights body said that its serious attention was drawn towards the arson, bomb explosion, other human and physical damages caused in such incidetns which occurred in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Banke, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Surkhet, Surkhet, Dolakha, Dang, Bardiya, including other districts. Stating that it is the right of political parties to protest peacefully, the rights watchdog condemned incidents of attacks on innocent people for political intents. The statement issued by Acting Secretary of the NHRC Bed Prakash Bhattarai urged not to search for alternatives to elections saying that election is the foundation of democracy and human rights.
