One person died of bullet injuries after security personnel opened fire to disperse the mob following a clash between two religious groups in Krishnanagar of Kapilvastu district, on Thursday.
After the incident, District Administration Office (DAO), Kapilvastu, imposed an indefinite curfew around the Krishnanagar area, to thwart any untoward incident in the area.
Police identified the deceased as Suraj Pandey, 35, of Krishnanagar Municipality-2, in the district. “The victim died while undergoing treatment at the local clinic, this afternoon,” Dr Dilip Kumar Agrahari, informed.
The incident had occurred after Hindus group was attacked with stones and bricks from nearby rooftops by another group, probably Muslims, while taking part in a procession around Krishnangar Bazaar area, on Wednesday night.
“We are trying to maintain law and order in the area,” Chief District Officer Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha, said.
Although one person died as we tried to forge consensus between the two disgruntled groups in the area, District Police Chief and Superintendent of Police (SP) Deep Shamsher Junga Bahadur Rana, shared.
