The Accountability Watch Committee (AWC) has expressed serious concern over the cover article published in the Lalrakshyak weekly. Issuing a press statement on February 7, AWC has censured the article which has declared prominent civil society leaders Kul Chandra Gautam, Subodh Raj Pyakurel and Kanak Mani Dixit as 'people's enemy'.

"Lalrakshyak published by UCPN-M affiliated 'Voice of Revolutionary Youth' on its cover and cover article on the Volume IV, Issue 5, Jan 28 to Feb 27 edition has declared three prominent civil society leaders Kul Chandra Gautam, Subodh Raj Pyakurel and Kanak Mani Dixit as people's enemy and libeled other individuals Yubaraj Sangraula, Gopal Krishna Shibakoti, Prakash Mani Sharma, Bandana Rana and Sapana Malla. Our serious attention has been drawn towards this," the statement said.

Stating that the reprehensible cover article intended to terrorize and silent the free citizens including, journalists, rights activists, intellectuals, the statement demanded that UCPN-M leaders immediately stop the unruly activities carried out in the name of journalism by those around them.

The AWC also urged the UCPN-M leadership to maintain composure as a responsible party on its ideological protest.
